The HITECH Act

When the federal stimulus bill was signed into law in February, 2009, it included $19.2 billion portion called the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. This act was created to facilitate the increase in the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) by hospitals and physicians.

The funds are allocated through Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement systems, in the form of monetary incentives paid to providers that are considered “meaningful users” of EHR systems and technology.

There are some rules that affect which providers will qualify for these funds, and there are specific implementation deadlines that must be met in order to satisfy the requirements for reimbursement.

Millin Medical’s Physician Billing and Practice Management Service Team helps providers streamline the process of switching to EHR.
